Product Questions

Q: What does it mean to be a ‘natural’ soap bar?

To us, a natural bar of soap includes natural, unaltered ingredients that are combined to create an ultra cleansing bar.  There isn’t a true definition of what a ‘natural’ bar entails but we feel we have developed one.  By combining our natural ingredients with goat milk and lye, we are able to build a preservative and paraben-free bar of soap made from goat milk from happy goats that are never fed anything genetically modified or containing animal bi-products, and raised on farms that do not use any sprays, insecticides, or pesticides. Our Goat Milk is whole, pasteurized, and has no BGH (growth hormones), antibiotics, or preservatives.

Q: I see Essential Oils and also Fragrance Oils in your soaps. What is the difference between the two?

We do offer a variety of scents in our soap, the majority of scents are derived from essential oil blends, but a few, by customer request, have fragrance oils.  Essential oils are plant-derived substances that have many components that can have physical, mental, and emotional health benefits.  Fragrance oils are aroma compounds that are found in perfumes and cosmetics.  Ingredients are clearly listed on all of our soaps, if you have any allergies please read the detailed descriptions before purchasing.

Q:  Is there lye in your soap?

There was!  In order to create soap, there needs to be a chemical reaction between fatty acids and lye, which produces soap and glycerin; a process called saponification.  We allow our soaps to cure 6 – 8 weeks which allows the lye to be consumed and the bar to harden and become more long lasting.  You won’t find any lye left in our soap by the time it is ready to be sold.

Q:  Why Goat’s Milk?

We can’t rave enough about the much-researched benefits of goat’s milk.  In its raw form, its rich in Vitamin A, alpha hydroxy acids, and minerals such as selenium.  It’s considered to be anti-aging and work wonders for dry and sensitive skin.  When we decided to make a natural bar of soap for our own children, we choose using goat milk in our soaps over water.  We also have our own personal testimonies of the success in healing cracked and dry hands by completely eliminating the use of detergent, chemical-laden, preservative containing soaps, and replacing all our face and body soaps with homemade goat milk soap.  We found our skin vastly improved and fell in love with goat milk.

Q: Which soap is best for my face?

We actually can recommend all the bars for face, body, and also hair!  We do caution against using any of the charcoal bars, The Kingston or The Stoddard, on a daily basis.  The Activated Charcoal, because of its incredible detoxifying abilities, can work against your skin’s healthy natural oils if used too often.  Using one of these bars 2 to 4 times a week will work as a deeper cleanser without over stripping your skin.

Q: How should I store my soap bar?

We always recommend that soap be stored on a dry surface and not allowed to sit in a wet area.  Soap bars will last longer if allowed to dry between uses.

Q: What is the shelf life of your soap?

Some of our essential oil soap scents will start to fade within 4-6 months.  If you selected a bar that has some fragrance oils, they tend to last longer.  However, the soap itself will not expire and will only harden and become a longer lasting bar of soap.
